Course completion work, Photography course for the visually impaired (CADEVISG)
05/12/2025
Juan Mathews Rebello Santos and Jhennyffer Kely Vieira Rebello
PROJECT TITLE
"Our History in Images: a construction for two"
JUSTIFICATION
The idea arose from the desire to value their journey together and pay homage to loved ones, such as Jhennyffer's grandmother and sister, who have passed away but remain in the couple's affectionate memory. Organizing these images was a way to rescue feelings, recognize achievements and immortalize the beauty of coexistence, love and family.
Jhennyffer and I met on Facebook. I saw her posts, found them interesting and started chatting. We started to like each other and 4 months later I traveled to her house to meet her. I went by plane. Afterwards, we didn't speak for practically a year, until she came alone from Pará, Xinguara, to Rio de Janeiro, São Gonçalo, a total of 2 thousand km away. The next day, I asked her to be engaged and we got married in July 2024. We traveled the next day to Pará by plane, and it was her first time. In fact, the flight attendant, Ana from Azul Airlines, announced over the loudspeaker that we had gotten married, which generated a round of applause and was a lot of fun.
MOTIVATION
This course completion work was carried out for the photography course for the visually impaired at CADEVISG (São Gonçalo Support Center for the Visually Impaired), where we studied photography, characteristics of photography, angles, how to take a photo, capturing light and all other sub-branches of photography, such as affective photography and much more. The course was taught by Jaqueline Machado, journalist, photo reporter, researcher, professor with a PhD in Social Memory from UNIRIO and participant in the Escola Letra Freudiana `)). It was a course that brought together several incredible works and a lot of learning.
History:
The project was carried out in November 2025, based on photographic records throughout the relationship between Jhennyffer and Juan, from the beginning to recent moments. The images were taken in different locations and contexts, such as São Gonçalo (RJ) and Xinguara (PA), covering intimate and family moments.
OBJECTIVES
Portray, through photographs, the remarkable and everyday moments that form the basis of an affectionate and true relationship. Communicate the value of time spent together, shared experiences, and the presence of the family as an essential part of this journey.
METHODOLOGY
The photos were previously captured over the years. They were selected based on their emotional charge, symbolic relevance and ability to tell a story. The organization was done chronologically, respecting the evolution of the relationship and the most significant moments experienced. The curatorship sought to show love on small and large occasions.
